I have a 54" cut troy bilt with 25hp briggs engine. Over the past few months I had the engine out to replace a leaking crankcase gasket. I also replaced all the exhaust, intake, and crank seal as well. I replaced all the belts, the fuel filter, pump, and hoses, as well as normal spark plugs, air&oil filters. I got the mower running in my garage and ran perfect, I start cutting grass and after about a minute or 2 it started dying on me, I turned blades off, that didn't help. Then when I try to start it, it just kept cranking not even trying to fire. Let it sit overnight, I went out today was able to get it to start after a while, starting cutting grass and same thing, any ideas?

2 things: it sounds like possibly a fuel restriction problem. If you haven't already, I would replace the fuel filter and check the lines. Secondly, I ended up taking my Troy-bilt tiller to a small engine mechanic because of similar symptoms. It turned out that it was the spark plug. The brand new one that I had bought for it at a parts and repair shop for some reason it didn't like. Tried a different plug, and it ran just fine.

I removed the air filter and it looks to be getting plenty of fuel, I recently replaced the fuel filter, fuel lines, and pump, as well as cleaning the tank. I replaced both plugs but I can buy some new ones to be safe

Gas cap vent may be plugged. Next time it happens loosen the cap and see if it keeps going.
