Hello, I have a generator with a 10hp 19G412 1186E1 engine and would like to know if there is an elec. start kit available. I have done internet research with not much help. The flywheel does NOT have the ring gear on it. I've added a start kit for a Honda GX160 on my boys go cart but the kit is readily available for the Honda. The Briggs engines manual shows that it could have came with an elec. start, but I don't see a kit. Any ideas?

Have you checked in the GENERATORS Owners Manual..?? My dad had a Gen. Without Elect. Start. soon decided it was easier on his
shoulder to get the Installation "kit" from the Gen. Mfg. ...Kit had entire parts necessary ..( starter, new flywheel, keyway, wire-harness and
switches (including low oil - shutdown sw. ) and light mounted on new Elect "panel" ...etc. etc. Kit was listed in the Owners Manual as an OPTIONAL accessory ... with an order sheet !! ....

Thanks, I'll look in the manual later today when I get back. Maybe if they did offer one it may be discontinued. My mother bought it new from Tractor Supply in 2001 and never unboxed it. She gave it to me in 2008 and I never unboxed it till here recently, so it's still like new. But I will check. Thanks..

You will need to add or replace some expensive parts to do it properly. You will need to purchase the following. Flywheel, starter, solenoid, key switch, battery and holder, and wires. Even doing it yourself, it wouldn't surprise me if the bill ran $300-$400.

IF you are a good scavenger, you can pick up good used parts you need for a fraction of expense of new with a little advice.

Thanks. I'm not sure if it's worth that even having about 1hr run time. I'll dig around.

I guess the main thing is if it's even worth the $ to go with electric start. Since it only has about an hr on it it should last a while. I've worked on engines for years but I'm not familiar with the governor speed on generators. This engine surges all the time, even with a load on it. Since there's no throttle maybe this is normal? I wouldn't think so. I cleaned out the carb and the fuel is fresh. If I close the choke butterfly about 75% of the way it clears up so it sounds like it's not getting enough fuel. This sat for many years but never had fuel in it so everything in the carb looked new, but I soaked it and blew it out anyway. Is the carbs calibrated diff for a generator to compensate for high loads? Thanks.
