I have .247 acres of land (less than 1/3 acre) to cut and it's all weed with very little grass until it's replanted later this year. I need an electric mower with exchangeable batteries, self propelled, that will comfortably fit a 6'2'' person. I really would like one that also can use a cord but the only one that I have found is a Remington and since they are out of business I don't want to chance buying one. Enough power to cut the whole yard without changing batteries would be really nice. I definitely don't want to use a gas mower. Can anyone help with some suggestions? Thanks in advance.

The best electric mowers are those that have been "rode hard and put up wet." That is, all the good ones have been used up and parts are obsolete.

Of those, you'd likely want to find:
*Black & Decker U273/8020/8021 18" Deluxe Dual Blade, Side Discharge (1967-1976)
*Black & Decker U274/8040 22" Deluxe Dual Blade, Side Discharge (1968-1976)
*Black & Decker 8010/8008/8009 18" Deluxe Single Blade, Side Discharge (1970-1990) (8009 has 2-speed motor; low speed useful for lighter growth)
*Black & Decker 8018 18" Deluxe Single Blade, Side Discharge (1984-1987) (flip over handle)
*Black & Decker 8035 19" Deluxe Dual Blade, Rear Discharge (1976-1979)
*Sears Craftsman 9041 18" Dual Blade, Side Discharge (1973) (flip over handle) (same as Sunbeam LE18T)
*Sears Craftsman 9042 18" Deluxe Single Blade, Side Discharge (1973) (flip over handle) (same as Sunbeam LE18)
*Sears Craftsman 9066 18" Dual Blade, Side Discharge (1974) (flip over handle) (same as Sunbeam LE18T)
*Sears Craftsman 91384 19" Deluxe Single Blade, Side Discharge (1983) (flip over handle) (same as Sunbeam 4119/5119)
*Sears Craftsman 9141 18" Deluxe Dual Blade, Side Discharge (1975-1977) (flip over handle) (same as Sunbeam LE18T)
*Sears Craftsman 91411 18" Deluxe Dual Blade, Side Discharge (1978-1979) (flip over handle) (same as Sunbeam 3127)
*Sears Craftsman 91412 18" Deluxe Dual Blade, Side Discharge (1980-1984) (flip over handle) (same as Sunbeam 3129, 4218/5218, 4318/5318)
*Sears Craftsman 3701 18" Dual Blade, Side Discharge (1985-1990) (flip over handle) (same as Mastercut 4318/5318)
*Sears Craftsman 3702 19" Deluxe Single Blade, Side Discharge (1985) (flip over handle) (same as Mastercut 4119/4219/5219)
*Sears Craftsman 3704 20" Rear Discharge, 2 Speed (1985) (same as Mastercut 4420 Easy Mower)

The Black & Decker SPCM1936 19-Inch 36-Volt Cordless Electric Self-Propelled Lawn Mower With Removable Battery should meet your needs. They claim up to 1/3 acre cutting area on a single full battery charge, and have been around for many years with good customer reviews.

Re: Need an electric mower, help please...B&D SCM1936

They now make a tiller that uses the same battery pack. On of each = 2 batteries available to use with either.
I'm trying to get them to come out with a 15" to 18" cordless electric snow blower using that same battery pack. Then I might make the switch from 10 years with Neuton cordless to Black and Decker. For the time being though Neuton CE5 (14") and CE6(19") are the easiest to deal with though not self propelled. For any health 6'2" guy with not much elevation change in the work area, self propelled is over-rated and adds significant weight and workload which decreases run-time per charge and or fuel consumption. You still have to turn it and that means added difficulty bulling it around.

whichever cordless you choose, get a spare battery pack. Workload which = energy needed to do it varies as much as the weather.
You need the spare battery to do exactly what the can of gas does for owning a gas powered mower, just without the stink and mess!

I have the b&d 36v self propelled listed above and absolutely love it. Its so light that the adjustable self propelled feature is rarely used. I'm 50, 6 ft, 250 with bad knees and I move this thing around easily. The only time I use self propelled is when I want to keep my stripes long and start a row from beside the mower so I reach over, hit the handle and then step in behind as it passes me, turning off propulsion as I do. The battery easily does the 1/3 acre advertised and was never short on power. I also like the rigid plastic deck so there is never a rusting problem. I have had two mowers go down because of rust as opposed to dead motors so the plastic works for me. I'm taking my business 100% electric this year with the b&d as the base mower, I'm going with the lithium ion line of stihl timers, lowers etc. I've always liked the gas stih's and their reliability so I have high hopes for the rechargables. I also put two solar panels on the roof of my truck to trickle charge the batteries throughout the day, we'll see how it goes, my customers love the concept in these "green" times.
