Navigator blade mounting question

New Exmark Navigator:

I hit a small 6" piece of a 2x4 which broke all 4 shear bolts. Ordered & received parts from my dealer along with an exploded view printout of the deck.

My question refers to the space between the blade driver/blade assy. and the blade retaining bolt/washer. Why is this space present? When the shear bolts break, the space allows the blades to damage the baffles and sustain damage to themselves.

I don't want to re-engineer a potentially hazardous component but I think a loose metal washer or a tight hard plastic washer could be used in that space to hold the blades level when the shear bolts break?

TIA for any comments.

From my understanding. The are there to prevent over-tightening of the bolt. Which in turn will help when hitting 2x4's. It will cause less damage to the transmission
