my cub cadet rzt50 PTO kept stop engaging.

While mowing, the blades on my rzt50 stopped engaging after I stopped and removed something on the lawn. I checked the wires to the deck belt drive pulley, one of them was cut bu the pulley. I re-taped it, but the blades were still not engaged. I then changed out the PTO switch, and the blades started to engage again for only about four hours, and then the blades stopped engaging again. I replaced the PTO switch the second time. Once again, it worked for only about the same length of time, and the blades stopped engaging intermittently then finally for good. It appeared to me that something is shorting out the PTO switch. Help...
