MTD Yard Machine Will Start, But Will Not Engage In Gear

Hello- I have a MTD Yard Machine 14.5 hp 42in cut and it will start but will not engage in gear. It will engage for a moment, travel a few yards then it just slips out of gear, not moving, but the engine will still be on.

I have replaced the drive belt as it seemed a little worn, but that did not fix it. Any one have any possible solutions or thoughts about what could be causing this?

It might be transmission problem. Try shift other gear to see if they hold.

I've tried all 7 gears and nothing.

Check the keyway on both rear axle and pulley wheel on top of transmission.
