I have ground problem on a 1988 mtd hechinger riding mower. I ran wire from neg post battery to the mounting bolt on ground plate on a 3 pole solonoid. Somehow the wire I ran touched the the little red wire when running the mower. I help running that wire again in a way where it wont touch other wires.
Don't know why you want to run another ground to the solenoid? If the solenoid s mount to a good, clean metal part, it is already grounded and there is no need for a separate ground.

sounds like you have a bad ground on the neg battery cable or on the solenoid its self cause like the last guy said if its a good ground you won't need another check to make sure the battery is grounded good to the frame or engine
