Mower won't accelerate

Hello All,

My Craftsman yt4500 has run into some problems. In the past, it has had issues going in reverse. Now, it won't go forwards or backwards. Also, when I put the parking brake in, the brakes don't work. I can get off the mower and push it around while it is still running. Any ideas on what might be going on? If you need me to clarify anything, I would be happy to.
 
post model number from under seat please, have you pulled rod out at back of tractor before pushing around yard? have you checked transmission drive belt & idler pulleys for wear with deck removed?
