Have a2008 Husquavarna riding mower, model 1538 lth,it stops running after 15minutes, like it is out of gas, before we replaced the engine coil it was doing the same, would restart after sitting for a few minutes, it seemed the hotter it got, the shorter it would run,it would take longer to start, that is why we thought it was the coil. The spark plug is throughly dry, looks great, should we assume the trouble is in the carburetor, any suggestions would be appreciated.

Change the fuel filter, remove fuel line going to fuel tank and blow back into the tank with gas cap off, remove and clean the carburetor, make sure the fuel line is not getting to warm close to the engine and vapor locking. Before doing all this, remove the gas cap and run mower and see if it runs past 15 minutes. If it does, blow out the gas cap with air compressor it could be clogged and not venting. If it has a fuel tank vent hose, blow that out as well.

When it does this, immediately loosen the gas cap, and try again. If it runs fine, the problem is a clogged tank vent.

agree with M above. do not buy parts. cap and hoses BEFORE taking carb apart. easy things first.

Took carburetor off to take picture of model number, noticed that when doing so the upper bolt on the carburetor was loose, could this be causing the problem of engine quitting after 15 minutes, will have to test drive after putting it back on with blade running and blade not running.

Tighten the bolt and proceed with the suggestions above.

Thanks for the lesson. I had assumed that you at least had reverse blown the old filter as a first comment suggested. OK we all learned. cheap things first then parts.
