I have a model 917.273381 sears craftsman lawn tractor. After approximately 20-30 minutes, it dies, restarts, runs unevenly, dies again after approx 10 seconds. This continues unless it sits for hours and will run again for a few minutes then dies, etc. The battery is charging at 14 volts. It has new spark plug, fuel filter, air filter, and fuel. Any ideas? Is there a coil that could be heating up? I don't have a service or owners manual.

Once it dies when hot remove the spark plug and test the compression . That should tell you if its the valves ect .

Any of the above. Start with the simple things first, like the gas cap, then move on to the more complicated and costly. Might even try changing spark plug(s) and don't forget the air filter too.

I suspect the gas cap. I doubt that it is the coil, as you say that it fires back up and then dies again. Next time it happens remover the gas cap, wait a minute and then restart. If it continues to run you have found your problem.
