Hi all. This is my first ever post so I hope I am following protocol!
I have a Craftsman YT-4000 with a 24hp B&S engine. In general it runs quite well. Starts ok, idles fine, engages blades with no issue... however one thing has me stumped. I apologise if I use the wrong terminology here, but I am not all that familiar with engines or mowers, but am handy on YouTube and Google so can usually learn pretty quick from peoples explanations.
So there is a lever on the left near the steering wheel and this seems to control the revs. I'm going to call it the throttle... please correct me if I'm wrong. It seems to behave normally and I push passed the little notch to open the choke when starting it, and then leave it on full in the little notch for when I'm mowing.
However the accelerator, when I push it all the way down with my foot, the engine begins to stall. If I keep my foot planted, it will cut out and I get a bit of a fuel smell which makes me think it's flooding. If i back my foot off, even the tiniest fraction, the mower runs completely fine... Even if I have pushed too far and it starts to go, I just raise my foot the tiniest bit and it recovers completely. I suspect I'm only going the tiniest bit slower than full speed, as like I said, I lift my foot ever so slightly, but it's still frustrating.
I have cleaned the air filter, I have also loosened the fuel lid to make sure it was getting enough air in, I have also stripped, cleaned and rebuilt the carburettor but the problem remains.
Are there any suggestions anyone has that I could try?
