Mobile 1 Extended Service

I'm gonna try Mobile 1 Extended Service full synthetic this spring. I usually only mow enough hours for just two oil changes a year. One in summer & one when the cutting season is over. Also I use Wix oil filters. Just posting to see what other members thoughts are. I like my Scag Cheetah with the Kawasaki 31 HP, 61" deck.

Thanks,
Fred

Read the owners manual for your specific Kawi engine.

Hi Fred,

Homeowner here, purchased my Cheetah (61" Kawa 31) in June '13.

I was fortunate enough to realize (back in Nov) that one of the local auto parts store was a running an oil special for Mobile one synthetic (10w30) at $5.50, (I think) so I purchased two cases. Because I cut only 3.5 acres per cut (right at 1.7 hours per cut), a full seasonal cut will probably run about 45 hour on the Cheetah clock. I plan on changing oil once a year.

I know the Kawasaki manual indicates using 10w30 "could" show an oil usage, but with the light use of my Cheetah through one season, I don't perceive the usage of much oil between changes....

What do you think......???

My Kawasaki manual oil type calls for a detergent oil (API service SF, SG, SH, SJ or SL ) doesn't say anything about synthetic. I personally unless the manufacturer calls for a synthetic I don't use it. Mobil 5000 10w30 goes in all my equipment.

I think you will get a lot of life out of your oil and should not be concerned with brand or synthetic as long as you are the correct viscosity your manual asks for

The brand or synthetic or not doesn't make a difference as long as the oil is changed regularly, every 50 hrs. Just follow the manual and do what the manufacturer calls for and you'll have no problems.

Check out this link from the Kawasaki site. I strongly recommend using the manufacturers own or recommended acceptable lube oils particularly while the engine is still on warranty.
K-Tech
This is the first that I have seen a synthetic blend available from Kawasaki in 10W30, their 30 weight oil is still dino oil and I buy it by the case at my local power equipment dealers along with Kawi brand oil filters as this engine has a 36 month/500 hour warranty. My Hustler X-ONE/Kawi/ FX730V runs for 8-10 hours at a time in season and I run 30 weight in it, 200 rough hours on it as it is used in a cemetery where parts of it are 200 years old.
Synthetic oils have a very strong detergent quality to them and because of this I don't recommend the use of full synthetic engine oils in any engine until it has around 100 hours on it and fully broken in.

Read the owners manual for your specific engine or machine!!!! I hope that my point gets across!!!!

I was not able to open the Kawi link, don't know why.
Try kawpower.com/engines

If your undecided on the Mobile1 oil then try the Amsoil 4 stroke small engine oil. I use the Amsoil 4 stroke small engine oil in my personal mowers that are riders. AMSOIL - Synthetic Oil, Motor and Engine Oil, Lubricants, Air Filters, Oil Filters and Greases

I just got this off the Kawasaki Web Site. Look like Kawasaki supports the idea of 10w30 synthetic oils.... Kawasaki has such an oil in their stable.....

"10W-30 synthetic blend oil provides ultimate performance and protection in both low and high temperature applications, including cold-weather startup"

Kawasaki is no different than Honda or Briggs, Kohler or any other company, they all make or have there own oils if you want to use them., I believe theirs is called K-Tech and sure they want you to run there stuff. What I posted is what the operators manual from the manufacturer states and it says nothing about synthetic use. It says or calls for a detergent oil (API service SF, SG, SH, SJ or SL ). Now Kohler states the same thing but it also states in a sub paragraph that says synthetic can be used in there engines if you choose but only after 50 hours or regular motor oil use for break in purposes. Personally you can run what ever pops your cork I could care less but while the machine is under warranty I'll do what the manufacturer says to do and if I don't have any problems I'll keep doing what it says, I've always figured they know more about there stuff than I do.

10W-30 synthetic "blend" with blend being the key word. Judging by the price of synthetic blends compared to regular petroleum based oils, there isn't a lot of synthetic in the blend. Kawasaki still has not as yet committed to full synthetic oils and I haven't seen any Kawi 10W-30 synthetic blend oil at any local power equipment dealers, so I think that the blend oil is fairly recent from Kawasaki.
Ford supplies 5W-20 synthetic blend and recommends it in my E 350 van and that is what I use.

Ford was using the the 5w20 synthetic blend in my 2006 XLT but they have gone to the Motorcraft SAE 5w-20 full synthetic in the New trucks with there newer engines.
