how can i find out the mod. # on the engine whin the tag is missing on a kolhor engine ?

Sometimes they can be tracked down by starting with the model number of the lawnmower. Any additional information that you can find on the engine can help also. Engine size cc or hp type of air cleaner, or if possible post pictures of the engine.
