While waiting for a new carburetor and governor spring to arrive, I'm seeking some advice. This B&S engine has a mechanical governor with a shaft that protrudes up through the top of the engine and is clamped to a lever that operates the link rod to the carburetor and governor spring. An amature mechanic (me) was troubleshooting a hunting problem and moved the link by hand left and right with the engine both running and stopped. Is that likely to have damaged the governor/slinger mechanism? The mower has been well maintained but is twenty years old. Do the governor mechanisms inside the engines last a long time? Thanks in advance for your response.
