I have a John Deere LX-277. The blade nearest the output side of the mower no longer turns. When the PTO is engaged the blade binds up and causes the engine to die. The other 2 blades seem to be turning normally. When I attempt to turn the problem blade by hand it quickly binds up and will not turn. The other 2 do not have this problem. The pulley and spindle turn when the blade is not attached but once the blade is installed it refuses to turn. I thought possibly the bearings may be broken but with the belt off I am able to smoothly turn the pulley. Any thoughts on what may be causing this?

Seem to be turning, don't assume anything, remove deck & inspect thoroughly, let us know what you find, thanks.

I suspect you have at least one if not both spindle bearings bad. This is causing the spindle to go out of alignment, causing it to bind when you attach the belt.
