I have a JD LX172 with a 14 HP Kawasaki Engine that was my dads. The last time I ran it it would be running fine and then would just die and would not start again for about 15 minutes. I would notice that there was little to no gas in the filter when I would crank it. Then minutes later it would start and go for awhile then do the same thing again.I am wondering if this could be the fuel pump? The motor will start right up when you prime it and keep pouring gas into the carb. I took the pump off yesterday and cleaned it but I still do not see any gas go threw the filter to the carb.Any way to check the fuel pump to see if this is really the problem or something else, I hate to spend $50.00 bucks on a new pump and it still will not run. Any advise would be appreciated. Thanks
Found the problem with the LX172 . Thought I would put on here what I found, it was the carb solinoid in the bottom of the carb it was stuck in place . There is a pin that sticks out from it and it should move back and forth ,mine was stuck a little carb cleaner and WD 40 and it workes like a new one .A friend said you should here a little click at the solinoid when you turn on the key if not then it is bad or needs cleaned. Runs like a champ again.
Awesome, I hate those things I do not get why they out them on there in the first place. If engines have ran for over 100 years with out some cut off why do they need them now. Some cars have these also
