Yesterday well doing my grass cutting I lost the steering and found that one end of the drag link fell apart. After removing found the the ball socket on one end came apart ball came out of the link. So to get by for now I machined a small coller to go over the shaft and hold the ball fitting in the shaft I also peened the socket hole to help hold the ball in place. I did order the new drag link because I use the tractor year round so don't need a break down in the winter.
My question is just how are these links with this ball socket made? Its a threaded pin with the ball but it is made into the link with a boot over it. Just how do they get these made? Just thought maybe someone here may know. With the rubber boot I can't figure how they could press fit the ends unless the boot is glued after ends are pressed could this be?
