GRAVELY 52” Pro-Stance

52” Gravely Pro-Stance mower with loss of power, to the point of almost stalling, after engaging the mower blades.

Its got a 19-HP Kawasaki engine. The mower is non-commercial. I only use it to cut my lawn once a week.

Gravely started manufacturing this model Pro-Stance mower in 2006 beginning with serial number 100. Mine is a 2006 serial number 109. I bought it used around ten years ago from a professional landscaper with 1530-hours on it. Since buying it, it’s been mostly running unbelievably great… up until now.

I’ve tried the following:
1) Changed fuel filter,
2) Air filter is clean,
3) Replaced all spindle bearings,
4) Lubed bearings of both pulley wheels,
5) Replaced drive belt last year,
6) Plugs look good & sparks present both cylindars,
7) New clutch 3-years ago.
8) All three blades sharpened & balanced,
9) Underside of mower deck is completely free of grass clipping crud.

Does anyone have any ideas what could be causing this loss of power?

I have some thoughts to what could be the issue, but without knowing what 19 hp Kawasaki engine I am only guessing. Having the Kawasaki engine model would really help.

I would verify you have steady fuel flow into a glass jar or similar container. Let it flow for a few seconds to make sure it is not a problem with trash in the tank outlet. Clippings and other debris gather in fuel tanks of every mower over years of use and eventually will starve off fuel by blocking the outlet.

At this age, the actual fuel hoses could be coming apart on the inside, so check for any soft areas of the fuel lines.

Thank you, AutoDoc. I will try checking on the fuel flow, and will look inside the gas tank for possible accumulated grass clippings.

When was the last time the valve clearances were checked. Could of dropped a push rod on one cylinder which would cause lose of power.
