I've been in the market for a reputable-brand used quality rider for awhile now. I've had enough of my current 1980-something Ranch King (MTD I think) with its nasty oil leak and "floating plate" engine mount (with mounting bolts always falling out).
An acquaintance of mine has a 1989-1990 John Deere 180 for sale; Kawasaki engine, 38" deck, unit well cared-for and maintained, thicker steel frame construction (not a big box store wannabe), new front axle and all new tires, clutch replaced in the last couple years. Also has the bagger system, which is a BIG feature I am wanting also. Residential use only, oiled and greased regularly, stored inside and not used during winter months.
Anything I should know about this unit, maintenance or otherwise? What would be a fair price? He said our local JD dealer told him it would be valued at around $800-900. I don't want to overpay but don't want to lowball the guy either, since I believe he is being honest about its condition. I will be checking out the unit in person within the next week, so any pointers are appreciated!
