Hello,
I am new here so please take it easy on me. Recently bought a house next to pieces of land that I own. It totals about 2.25 acres with about 1.75 of being of decent quality. My dad lives in a house on one of the properties and has taken care of it. It was overgrowth but now looks decent for what he has to use for equipment and a 76 year old man. But, I am looking for a universal machine that can do it all. I assume a garden tractor variety. One that can mow, brush cut, break ground for a garden, dig a trench if need be. We have some drainage issues and will need to dig once so that is not the biggest function, but the mowing and "grass" maintenance is the main thing. Garden would be the next main thing. We have 2 JD's lawn tractors, no PTO. Can't remember the model numbers right now. I will be going out to work on one here in a few and will get the model #'s and add them to the post. I have searched the internet for the past 4 days and can't seem to find anything that is good at mowing, at using for tilling a garden, and used for bush hogging. Can someone please shed some light on this subject and at least point me in the right direction? Thanks for any help you can provide.
I will try and upload some photos to my profile of the acreage.

Thanks for the response. So I don't have to have JD. We have two JD's neither have PTO. One is an LX176 and not sure how old it is. The other is slightly bigger, but still no PTO. I am not too worried about the name brand as long as it can handle multiple jobs. I tried to post some pictures of the area, but I couldn't get them to upload. The land slopes left to right and front to back. We have about an acre that is pristine mowing conditions. So, we use the JD that is slightly bigger and newer to mow it. The LX176 will be used to mow the rest. But I still have about 1/2 acre of overgrowth, that is about 4ft high, and nothing is more than 3/4 of inch thick in the overgrowth. I have been weed whacking it with a trimmer, but since I want to start a garden I wanted to look at a new machine. Plus I need to do at least one french drain so theres another problem. I was hoping to find a piece of equipment that could do the majority of the things I need to do at a reasonable price. That may be a little far fetched to think of though. It would be nice to have something like kubota with a mowing deck that has the bucket in the back then the ability to hook a tiller or whatever up front. Is that possible? Or should I just look at getting a brush cutter and renting the other equipment to do the things that I need. The overgrowth will only be overgrowth one time. Once I cut it I want need a brush cutter because the old JD will be able to handle it. The DR trimmer store had a neat machine that was a mower, generator, and utility vehicle. I am just so confused on all the different options and don't want to buy the wrong thing. Ok, I have rambled enough. Thanks
Jack
I was just giving you examples of the JD line since that's what I know best, there are lots of options out there with numerous brands. It can be very confusing at first so I would recommend reading some of the tractor forums as it looks like what you want is a subcompact or compact tractor. Also go to your local tractor dealers, they are usually a wealth of info for those that are new to the game.
If you really feel the need for a backhoe they do come off the tractors easily so you can hook up a rear tiller or any other implement. I have one for my JD 3320 compact tractor and really love it, but they are expensive. To get a backhoe you would want to look at the JD 1000 series or above if your thinking green, no idea about Kubota's or the others.
Many folks will tell you if you are only going to do a job once it makes economical sense to hire it done or rent the equipment. In reality (at least for me) its nice to own the equipment since new projects are always popping up around my property and I have used my backhoe much more than I ever thought possible.
I don't know of any front end tillers but there may be such a thing out there somewhere.
