Duh... my mistake. For some reason, when you mentioned tapered bearings, I was thinking, steering knuckle bearings. You said "spindle", but it didn't register until I saw the photo you posted. Yes, those spindle nuts are really tight. I had to run my air pressure high to get my impact wrench to loosen them. I'm not surprised that the spec is 120 ft-lbs.
