Hello to all! First post, and I'm here because I'm trying to identify the model number of my mower, in order to buy a replacement cable for the self propelled drive. My late dad purchased this mower sometime in the early 80's before he retired. 21 inch Gold Series self propelled with electric start. It has a lebl that says "Two Stroke 4.5 HP Commercial Engine" but I cannot find a model number or serial number anywhere. The traction cable for the self propelled mechanism finally broke. It is 40" in length including hte metal L/S shaped piece tha secures it near the handle, Also hopng to replace the real wheels, as they are original and worn down to smooth plastic - no tread left. Apologies for the dirt. It actually runs quite well, but I haven't cleaned it lately. I have seached images and descriptions, and have found a few that resemble it but are not exactly the same. Thanks in advance for any assistance you can offer.

That basic mower was made from 1994-1997, so 10+ years newer than you thought:

1994 (Model 10545, SN 49*******)
1995 (Model 10545, SN 59*******)
1996 (Model 10546, SN 69*******)
1997 (Model 10546, SN 79*******)

Yours being 4.5 HP it should be a 1994 as the 1995-97 should have a "5HP" sticker on them.

One of the most desirable L-B's after the Toro acquisition in that it includes the "F" engine, Cast Deck, and Toro design 3-Speed Transmission, plus it has the optional Electric Start which is nice.

Being from the Toro era, it also has the more reliable top mount pull start recoil set up that was a drastic improvement over the earlier OMC era "F" engines with the vertical recoil.

Thanks! Was able to get a traction contrl cable for $14 on Amazon and that did the trick. With my tiny lawn it should be good for a few more years. I shoudl probably replace the battery but it always starts easily on frst pull with the cord. My dad had spinal stenosis and needed the electric start. I was shocked ot see how much these sell for on eBay!

A few more years? Do the basic maintenance on it and you can pass it on to your kids.
