I think I had a mouse a chewing at my belt. Way past time for replacement as these are original on my 725 that I bought in 01.

Either time for a cat, or feed your mice better:laughing:

I see 2 areas of damage, 1st is really bad, 2nd looks like the belt is just starting to come apart..

IDK if we can blame the mouse. Just my .02

Very true, these are the original belts on my 61" flip deck. I am very lucky to have them last this long, but that one area is something I've never seen before. I cant think of anything that would cause wear like that, so my only thought is it was a mouse.

1st one looks like it could have been mouse damage, but 2nd just looks like belt is separating..

Amazing you went so long on OE belts..

18 years on a V-belt, pretty good wear I think. See some cracks in the belt and probably separated, got opened up on a reverse side idler, caught something and tore out the chunk. Never seen that before though. Might run another season or two even so.

Tom- Yep, wouldn't be surprised if it did make another season.

We should take bets on the time it will last..

OK, I'll wager $15. it will go till it gets replaced.

& I'll throw in an almost new piston.

You could JB weld that...

I'll throw in a lightly used connecting rod, rod journals were oversized by the engine .060" and added oil grooves

Way off topic, but gotta ask, what is that piston/rod out of. Long rod, big journal, coated short skirt piston...........

Back on topic.
That belt will last until a really, really hot summer day and you absolutely need to get the yard mowed for some reason.
