Leaves Versus flowers/propellers

I've heard some argument that you should rake your leaves, and others that it's better to mow them and let them sit...at least for healthy soil.

But I was wondering in the summer, we have flowering trees and all sort of trees that drop propellers and and seed pods. And I mean a lot of them! Is it ok to leave them where they drop, or should I rake them, or should I just mow over them and leaving the grindings to nourish the soil?

By "propellers" are you referring to maple seeds? I've never heard of anyone raking maple seeds, we always mowed over them. Unless you're one of those perfect lawn type of guys (or gals), I'd let them stay as organic matter to nourish the soil.

Probably because no one on the planet has had as many propellers and seed pods fall into their yard as mine. There is one patch that is nearly completely covered in them. :licking: If only they were edible I could save on my grocery bill.
