lawnmower problem

Hi, I have a Craftsman 42" rider and recently it has had a problem that I have never encountered.. When I am driving down my driveway (pretty steep incline) my mower slips out of gear and lunges forward and then goes back into gear.. It used to not do this anbd it is very irritating and makes me worry that it might lead to a bigger probelm.. It only does it when I am going down the incline.. Thanks for any ideas

Mike

As usual, post your model number so we can see which transmission and drive train you have.

Like Rivets said, get us the model number info, but I suspect the shift keys inside the tranny are getting worn and are now jumping.

Sorry, I should have figured... It's a Crapsman 247-288 12. 42".. I "beliee" it's manufactured by mTD.. It's only a couple years old.. 2012 I believe.. If it is the shift keys, iis it "worthwhile to have it repaired dollar wise" or should I be looking for a new mower?
Thanks for any advice
Mike

It is a MTD. forget the shift keys. You will need to replace the input gears, which there is two, and the sliding shift collar. Not a bad job other than just messy.
