LawnBoy engine swapping

I'm placing a model year 1992-3 "L" engine on a year 1978 deck using the old F-100 muffler. Will this larger engine operate properly with the smaller muffler without creating too much back-pressure and subsequent excessive carbon buildup in the upper cylinder, exhaust port and muffler area? The "L" engine muffler will not fit the deck. d.s.

if it was me i'd just go ahead and switch motor mount plates and engine altogether. Seems it would be easier just to switch the whole shabang. If i'm not mistaken the mounting plates are basically the same, they hold the engines and mufflers and the decks are set up to accept them!!

theres no L engine but i know what you talking about the f series are between 4-5hp and it dont matter what plate or muffler you use it will work the same ive done it before i have a 1978 f100 on a 1984 deck and muffler plate its a great idea while its apart to inspect the crank seals and ports in the head and the carbon deposits in the muffler run it a 32:1 with lawn boy oil or if other oils are used use 32:1 and add 1oz of marvel mystery oil good luck anymore questions were here to help
