lawnboy 8400 bad coil

bought a lawnboy 8400 that did not run.Checked for spark and it fired up for a few seconds so I replaced the fuel shutoff that was leaking thinking o boy I got a real deal on this one.NO!! SPARK WAS WEAK. Had to buy a new coil.after removing the old coil the plug wire was just laying there on the deck.Can I put the wire back in to the coil with a little bead of tack seal to hold it in place?Anyway after replacing the coil the mower runs great and is in really good clean condition.got pictures?I can only load one pic at a time due to the high resolution of my camera but I am on it.

Those coils have a friction fit for the plug wire. If you will notice in the hole for the plug wire there is a pin that punches into the wire in the middle of the coil wire when you push the wire into the coil. Generally the wire will stay put, but the rubber outer coating on the plug wire may have shrunk due to age. It is no problem if you want to use a dab of adhesive or sealer, but it shouldn't be necessary.
