Trust me when i say that MTD loves springs. They use so many on their units it is crazy.
You need to get a parts breakdown; just google MTD parts breakdown.
just to get an idea as to where it hooks up, on end will hook to the idler pulley bracket and the other end to a stationary bracket. look for holes that have a shiny wear mark around it. Sorry, but that is best i can tell you.
