Just wondering If anyone knows why my lawn mower engine occasionally try's to restart directly after shut off. This occasionally happens but I have not tooken the time to figure out the problem because other wise it runs perfectly. It's a 1998 John Deere lx 178 with a 15 hp liquid cooled Kawasaki vtwin engine.

Your engine should have a fuel solenoid on it that shuts off the fuel when you turn off the ignition. When they get to this type of age they don稚 shut off completely and will allow a small amount of fuel through. The hot carbon deposits in the engine are hot enough to ignite the fuel and make the engine run on for a few seconds.
If it becomes a problem change the solenoid and de-coke the engine.

Yes that is exactly what it seems to be, it isn't a major problem because it only seems to do so once or twice in like 10 uses so... I would just prefer to have my mower running in top condition. How much approximately would it cost to fix this problem? Hope u can help :)

Not sure what your local costs would be but you are looking at around 」400.00
Engine service Top end Gasket set Oil Air Filter Fuel Valve and labour.

Try closing the throttle and letting the engine tick over for a few seconds (5 or 6) before turning the engine off this will help reduce the flow of fuel through the solenoid.

So that's not to bad, I'm in Ontario Canada so probaly around $540.00 ? Could this be done by myself to cut cost or do I have to bring it in to my dealer?
