I've been a lurker for years, reading a bunch of threads. Joined a while ago, but only a post or two. Today, that changes :)

Bought my first Lawn Boy in 2000, when I was living in IL. It was a local garage sale find, a sand-tan 7256 made in Galesburg, IL. It had been sitting for many years. I had it running within the day. Had to mess with the rewind starter, clean the carb/fuel system and this-and-that, but it was a good runner.

Never used it as a weekly mower, but ended up buying a used 10323 shortly thereafter. Several years later, (now in DFW, TX) I ended up seizing the engine (using Blendzall because I liked the smell, but it gummed up the rings, overheated and seized). I was able to buy a new short block on eBay. installed it, and put it in the attic with the 7256. Both have sat there ever since.

Four or so years ago, I picked up a local CraigsList 8270, got it running, parked it on the patio.

A year or two ago, I ran across a CraigsList 10547. Got it running and parked it on the patio. Still looking for a reasonably-priced battery pack--it is electric start and the e-start works (tested with a motorcycle battery). If you know of a battery pack that will fit, and cost $50 or less, I'd like to give it a try.

I retired this July and needing a retirement hobby, bought/fixed/sold a couple of Honda and Husqvarna mowers (still lave two running HRR216s). Along the way I ended up with two more 10323s. One is now running, the other's piston looks worse that the one I seized 20 years ago. Cylinder looks fine (little bit of aluminum, but that will come off) and looks like I can buy a piston for about the same price I paid for the NOS short block back then--short blocks don't seem to be available these days. Also, the carb is a mess--thinking of buying one of the $16 eBay jobbies. Anyone have any input on those?

Also, I have bought two-three coils for the DuraForce engines in the past. Anyone have a favorite supplier?

More to follow. I hope to be selling the house and moving soon, and I'll be looking to move some of these to new homes. If you are local and have any interest, please contact me, either through this forum or by email rich at rabidjackal dot com.

Thanks in advance, Rich
