Hello everyone,
I have a Lawn Boy Commercial 22261 model that has a broken recoil starter. I have been looking on ebay and elsewhere on the Internet for a used part and cannot seem to locate one. Or if I do they are NOS that someone is asking more than the mower is work for. Does anyone know of a site that sells these old parts? The mower is in great shape and I hate to let it sit for a simple fix such as this. View attachment 46029View attachment 46029

We can help you better IF we know what is broken.
Clearly the cord does not rewind. Do you just want to replace the rewind spring?
Wow, you can still get the starter from partstree, but it's like 140.00. I'm wondering if the starter from a 10323 would work even though it looks like it has different engagement dogs. These were riveted to the plastic engine shroud, but you could drill out the rivets to remove. The Duraforce from a 22261 should be the same as a 10323, minus the starter.
Sorry if I wasn't clear. The post at the top of the recoil assembly broke off. I had it welded back on but then could not get recoil spring to feed back into the post (not sure of the correct terms for these parts). I assumed that I would to purchase a whole replacement recoil assembly.

The 10323 starter cup is different.
If memory serves, the cup on commercial machines is taller.
If the cup were changed to the residential configuration then a complete residential starter (such as on the 10323) should work.
In any case...EBAY may be the best bet.
I appreciate the offer Jeff. I have a couple of other Lawnboys that I tried to take parts off of to make this work with no luck. I assume I'll need to drop the cash on the NOS part. Just hate to spend the $ on this since $150 is about what I paid for the mower.

When my old F-motor doesn't want to start I just drill start it. Craftsman battery drill with a socket on the flywheel nut. Spins it right over and sure will convince it to run. Just pull the drill off with it (the drill) still running.
You have a very rare/desirable mower, I'd give you 200.00 (as is) for it, but I'm sure you don't live near Michigan, and shipping wouldn't make it worthwhile.
