Lawn boy 7217 shutoff switch question

Hey guys,

We just purchased a 1967 lawn boy model 7217 off eBay, and I think we didn't get a complete shutoff switch assembly. Does anyone know how this mechanism works? The switch we have actually pops up out if the shroud (eg is removable) which I don't think it should do. Also when we turn it around to the off and on position, it doesn't look like it does anything, possibly because we are missing this part.. 604249 blade switch. We will order this part but does anyone know how this shutoff actually shuts off the mower? Thank you!

The switch is actually a combination primer push down function and a rotating on-off switch. It is a plastic rod, with a spring and a small metal blade on the bottom. The spring retains the metal blade at the bottom, when you put the shroud on, and the metal blade at the bottom performs an ignition shorting function when rotated. It shorts out the coil, thus stopping the engine. You should not be able to pull this rod up out of the shroud, unless your shroud is so worn that the hole is wallowed out. If so, you can perhaps use a washer under the shroud to keep the switch from coming up.

To operate, you rotate the switch rod that sticks out above the shroud to "ON", thus rotating the metal blade on the bottom end off the shorting position, you then push down on the switch rod a couple times to prime the carb. When you wish to stop running the mower, you just rotate the rod to the off position, shorting the ignition to ground, stopping the engine. The proper carb for this model has a primer shaft that lines up underneath this switch-rod, and when you push rod down, it pushes the primer rod on the carb. When the rod is rotated to the off position, the blade should short out a screw, that holds a wire in an insulated terminal, thus completing the path to ground for shorting the ignition out.
