Hi I am new to this form. I just bought an old beat up Lawnboy 5024 ser number 214207. I got it for $25.00 pretty rusty and will need lots of work. It runs great after cleaning carb. I just wanted to know how to determine the date of manufacture: I think it a 70's or 80's. Hoping to restore it to original look. It will be a fun project. This will be the second lawn boy I own. I have a 8237 also. These are Canadian labeled machines. Oh and I have 2 cycle fever! Thanks

Your "Bricktop" was probably manufactured between 1977-97, but your serial number does not match up with any numbers that I can find for a 5024.

I have 2 8237 lawn boys and on one of them i just changed the 3 seals because it was getting hard to start when hot.

I think the reason the model and serial numbers don't jive is that your unit was built in Canada, while my records are only for unit built in the USA.

The only suggestion I have about painting is really a warning: There is a guy selling Lawn Boy color paint, in spray cans, on eBay. The picture looks like a regular 12 oz can; but when you get it, it's a 4.5 oz can...Just about enough to paint a coffee cup. You would need about ten cans to paint a mower deck.

Thanks for info! I am trying to locate Rust-oleum Grabber green or Plastikote Hot Rod Green somewhere in Canada? will check out NAPA? According to a lot of forms they are a close match. I have now prepared the shroud and deck for painting!
