L130 wiring diagram?

#1

First post on what appears to be a great forum!
Anyway, I have an L130 that I've had for approx 7 years....and what a sad machine it is.
The latest issue is the clutch for the deck has quit (only 3yr old). It seems to have lost power.
I can't get any voltage to it....fuse good, solinoid appears fine (i can feel it activate when enganging
switch), wiring appears ok. Seat and reverse button both kill motor as they should. Battery good (new this spring). The solinoid does feel like it is "chattering" when mower switch is pulled...but still
no voltage to "pto" clutch for deck. Ideas....thoughts....other safety stuff to look at...diagrams?
I quit while mowing....

Side question....i assume these lower price Deeres were partially made by MTD or someone like that?

That's a good start...thank you very much sir! I will surely post findings....it's a pet peeve of mine to read thru threads only to find no replys with the original poster's answer on how it got fixed

anyone got any thoughts around the clutch for the deck not getting power?

Find a DMM with continuity beeper work your way from the clutch, when you don't have a beep (no path) check it out. but take a lead off the battery before you start..!

Remove the wire harness plug from the seat switch, look at the end of the plug. You will see in the center of the plug a a square looking "PLUG" for lack of a proper name. Be sure this plug is pushed into the plug and somewhat flush with its end. These do get moved out somewhat and causes the issue you are having.

The soleniod or coil as they call it should have a precribed resistance. If the resistance is not correct it will keep on causing problems. I do not have the value but it could be calculated with ( volt=amps*resistance)

I haven't had a chance to go over some of the suggestions yet but intend to one evening this week. Thanks for the suggestions guys!

Side note...I've had the seat switch unplugged and motor dies so I assume all is well there and the prongs did appear in place correctly

Side note 2....i did ohm the clutch and if I recall i had the "beep" between the two terminals and also from each to ground. Will make leads to a 12v source and see if I get it to activate next.

The specs are 2.4 - 2.7 ohms across the terminals.

neither terminal to ground.....correct?

terminal to terminal . If you are not getting power it has to be one of the safety switches or the main switch. The wire connectors are good? the ground to the engine is in place, from the clutch?

Well it seems I have multi issues.....the main one appears to be the switch no worky. Switch on order. I still think there is issues with the clutch (which may have lead to switch failure). It hardly engages when applying 12v to it....and either terminal to ground reads 1-2 ohms (same as between the two terminals)

1-2 ohms between terminals should be allright. Did you check the voltage at the clutch wiring harness plug? remember you need someone on the seat even if the engine is not running to get voltage to the clutch. t Next try a jumper wire from the + side of the battery to one terminal and ground the other clutch terminals, careful to not let them touch see if the clutch kicks in. Also check your ground wire ohms at the plug make sure it has not broken inside the wire covering.

I had a older machine that was not charging, the owner changed out the voltage regulator, generator, and battery he was starting to change switches but gave up. It took a little time with a meter but I found one of the wires were cracked at the voltage regulator. It looked fine but no continuity I pulled it and the wire covering was the only thing holding it to the terminal end. I replaced the terminal and worked fine.

With neither terminals on the clutch plugged in......am I correct in assuming that neither should read to ground?

Clutch not plugged in, measure ohms across two clutch terminals not plug.

If you testwiring plug one will be hot with switch on and operator in seat and key on. The other is a ground, my pics show where it connects near engine. There is a junction block that goes through the frame connects to clutch and I forget what else, reverse switch maybe.

Gotcha......1 ohm across terminals of clutch. But I get 1 ohm when reading from either terminal to say the frame. This seams like a shorted clutch to me

think you are right

Well....installed new switch and hooked it all up anyway. Mowed for about 20min and started smelling electrical something. Figured screw it....if it's burnt up then it'll be easier to find. Got fuse eventually...clutch a smokin  Guessing it got the weak switch before the 30amp fuse last time. A new clutch soon shall cometh (second it 9 seasons)

Well at least the problem is found. Shouldn't the fuse be a 20 amp? I am guessing you run a bagger, many on/off cycles. Mine went at 6 years only bagging leaves and spring cleanup.

No bagging....maybe I'm just rough on it? 310hrs on the meter I think. Didn't make 200hrs on the first one. Probably assembled on Friday evening :confused3:
