My Ransomes cylinder mower has a Kubota GS160 4-stroke flat-head engine - which won't start. Compression is very poor (around 20 p.s.i.), so I checked the valves. The exhaust valve has a clearance of around 4 thousandths, and the inlet valve no clearance at all - the valve doesn't even touch the valve seat with the engine at t.d.c.
Can anyone tell me what the clearance settings should be for this engine? Or is there some general guidance for this type of side-valve (flat-head) engine?
