The engine on my lawn tractor starts and runs okay. After running for a bit the engine stutters and a huge cloud of smoke blows out the exhaust, then it recovers and I mow for a few minutes and it does it again.
Any ideas on what is going on? Blown head gasket? Piston rings worn? Help please

What color is the smoke. Will help determine if oil or gas or water.
White smoke usually indicates water In the fuel. Take a glass container and drain four inches of fuel into it. If you have water in the fuel you will see it at the bottom of the container.

Thanks for the advice. I checked the spark plug and replaced it and changed the oil and filter. I think there was too much oil in the crank case cuz the smoke is gone now.

Oil capacity is listed at 1.6 quarts or 1.5 Liters for the SV590.
Glad it ain't smoking now.

If it suddenly got overfull on its own, then likely a flooding carb, and you have fuel in your oil. Better fix it correctly.
