Kohler sv530 keeps breaking exhaust rocker

Hello,

I have a 1 year old troy bilt sv530 with the 17hp kohler that would not start will so I checked the exhaust valve and found it broken. I replaced it and turned the engine over and checked clearance and seemed to be perfect. I started it and it ran about 5 minutes before the same problem with a broken exhaust rocker. Manually it seems to work perfect. What is causing this unit to eat rockers?

All I can add is that this is a twin cam unit and specific instructions must be followed to set clearances. Buy the manual. I would be more help, but I as a dealer cannot access service bul at this time due to Kohler web building issues. I highly recommend that you find the cause or get the manual before it cost more - it may have already. One thing I can tell you to check. Remove the top cover and insure all crankcase bolts are tight - the bolts that hold the engine oil cavity cover closed, some under the flywheel, some exposed. A common problem on this engine is these bolts coming loose, but in defense, the age of your engine would suggest it has incorporated changes to remedy this anomaly.
