Does anyone know how to lower the idle speed of a K-735 Kohler. 1800 rpm idle is noisy and a waste of gas. The governor prevents lowering the idle speed with the idle screw.

Locate your Engine Service Manual & read.

Thanks much for the link. I will give the governor adjustment a try.

Most likely you have a governed idle system. They are designed to operate between 1500 and 1800 rpm. Most have governed idle speed adjustment screw though depending on the control set you might be looking at bendable tang. Note: you don't want to go below 1500 rpm or you will have surging. The engine's base idle speed need to be set at 1200 rpm before setting the governed idle
speed.

It is also to note that Kohler engines tend to burn more fuel than their competitor engines in the first place.

I have 2 KT-735 one a 2015 and a 2017 and both idle a bit high in my book. I messed with them both and just gave up on getting them to idle slower. They both still run like new so I just live with it.
