I recently got a snapper splh160bv which originally had a 14 hp kohler with pull start , motor got damaged and I bought a cv16s kohler with electric start but I'm confused with wire colors , I need help I will post some pics tomorrow of engine . It has 2red wires ,one goes to electric carb and the other somewhere below shroud , might be charging unit for battery , a white which i think is kill wire and black which I'm not sure of

Go to this website for a manual for your engine. Section 8 Electrical should be able to help you.

I assume that you checked to see that you had both spark and fuel in the cylinder. Common problem on these engines is a fuel solenoid not working. Have you gone through the trouble shooting procedures listed in the Kohler manual?

I did try using starter fuel, but i did not check for spark because engine fired up for about 3 seconds on 2 occasions and that was it. I'll check for spark tomorrow , I wired solenoid directly to battery for testing purposes , I'm not sure f it should to hooked up differently on side of solenoid where starter is hooked up to.

That will work for testing.

I got it started but only with starter fluid ,I'm not able to start with gas , carb might be dirty so ill try no clean on Saturday , I also got motor without muffler So i got one off a 14 hp kohler but my motor is 16 hp.

I would remove the carb and give it a good bath.
