Working on a Cub Tank M60-KH, model 53BB5BDX750, ser. 0C295Z80032, 2005 model.

Cub Cadet and other websites that sell parts for the engine, call this engine a CV740S-0015. Unfortunately, the spec sticker on the motor is gone. Cub claims the motor on this model tank is a CV740S. That's all I have to go on.

One coil failed and the other one had weak spark, but the motor could be started and ran on one cylinder. By testing, I could see that the one coil pulsed every revolution.

Here's the problem: If this is a CV740S motor, all websites call for a Kohler coil 24 584 36S. I bought a set of coils to replace the original coils using the number 24 584 36S. Once installed, I removed the ground wire and turned the engine. No spark until I turned the key off, and then there was one good spark. Repeated tests did the same thing. At least the old coil sparked every revolution.

The original coils have a number of 25 584 15. If you do research on this coil, it's not made for this engine, but that's what has been on for years.

What's the difference between these coils? Can anybody help clear this confusion up? Thanks.

The 24 584 36-s modules are for the older spark advance system which is obsolete. It looks like that engine has had the MDI conversion 25 707 03-s kit which may of contained the 25 584 15 MDI modules.

IL is right about the MDI conversion coil PN which is the current PN for them.

Also here is the related parts bulletin.

And the 24 584 36-S is for only the CV/CH 22 and 25 engines.

The Cub Cadet website for his model list the CV740-0015 as part of the parts diagrams, It does list the 24 584 36-S modules. Kohler Partners list that same module on the spec engine prior to MDI conversion. And then list the 25 584 14-S for before 2020 and 25 584 26-S after 2020

So the OP has correct information for the engine as it was built, but didn't account for the upgraded ignition system.

Thanks for the help. I am convinced my motor was converted in the past. I looked at the pics for the Cub website suggested coil 24 584 36s and it doesn't look like the 25 584 15. The major difference is that the 25 584 15 has a braided sleeve around the high tension wire and only one male terminal for a ground on the module.

I got tripped up by believing websites and not knowing about the conversion.

Thanks to you all, I ordered the right modules now and have 2 paperweights.

If I understand, the old style mods needed 12V to fire. Is that what the second male terminal beside the ground terminal was for? 12V. ?

In 20 years, I've never seen a good coil NOT fire on every revolution, with the ground wire disconnected.
