I hate to be asking so many questions , that are so basic, but my solenoid gas shorted to ground and needs to be replaced. My question is this. Do I have to remove starter also, before separating the two? All help is graciously received. Terry
i am assuming that you have solenoid mounted on the starter, what we call a solenoid shift starter. You can replace the solenoid without removing the starter, but is easier if the starter is removed first. Also be aware there is not much difference in price between the solenoid, and a new starter with a new solenoid. Like $17.
