2003 17hp CV490S-27508 Engine starts and runs fantastic. All original. Engine in a Craftsman LT2000.
With kill wire connected at coil and new fuse, engine will start and run but will blow the fuse every time.
Disconnect kill wire at coil engine starts and runs great too, fuse does not blow. Oddly shutting off key does not kill engine via the fuel solenoid. I have to clamp fuel line. Yet solenoid worked when I pulled it off carb and energized it.
I have followed kill wire from coil to ignition switch and see no abrasions, chaffing, etc. Looks pristine. I opened up the loom and tape.
I have replaced ignition switch to a identical known good switch and fuse still blows.
If I disconnect the 6 pin connector (which kill wire goes into) engine starts and runs, fuse does not blow.
If I disconnect the fuel solenoid fuse still blows.
Mower has a volt meter on the dash (not typical ammeter) not working. Has 0.5ohm resistance. Has to be plugged in for mower to crank.
Today I will by pass the volt meter to see if somehow that is causing the fuse to blow.
Assuming I didn't miss anything on the wire(nick, bare copper etc) what else could it be? Can the coil function great like it does yet still be the culprit?
Open to all ideas. Thank you.
