Kohler 5 hp charging?

I have a kohler 5hp small engine on a log splitter! It is not charging the battery! My question is the two wires coming off of the stater ! What "ac" voltage should I have going into voltage regulator to produce 12v? "B+" thanks

Posting up your engine #'s would be helpful.

You should have somewhere between 13 to 18 v.d.c. minimum coming off of the stator, and app. 18 - 28 volts v.a.c. (Some systems will have more.) Anything less will prevent the battery from fully charging.
