I have a 2013 Toro MX5060, model 74641, Kawasaki FR691v. When I start the engine it idles normal. After I run it a while and then idle it down it idles faster. I don't have a way of checking the rpms, but its obviously faster just listening to it. Why?? What can I do to make it idle the same way as it is at start up?

Someone tuned the base idle the same as the governed idle. Retune using a tach. Same problem show on Briggs engines with governed idle.
This should resolve the problem. Please reference the service manual for instructions.

I don't have a service manual, I'm just a homeowner. But you may be right about someone changing it, I had the mower at another shop for a different matter last year because he was the one I could get it in the quickest. I noticed it idled higher so he probably idled it up. Before that it idled the same after running the mower as it did at start up. I don't know what a "base idle" is compared to a "governed idle". When I finish mowing and throttle it back rpms go down but not all the way to the idle speed it has at start up. It would seem to me (rightly or wrongly) perhaps some slippage in the throttle cable not allowing the throttle cable to push all the way back. But I don't see any change. I don't know -- I'm just a homeowner. Taking it in to a shop around here in June means about 4 - 6 weeks getting it back.

My X-350 does exactly the same as the . The screw that appears to adjust idle does nothing .
It looks as if i'll be looking for a service manual .

I had a thought on mine because others doing the same .
it idles normal when first started but increase idle speed later . Some piece of that idle system is growing longer as the heat increases . Which could it be .

That screw on the carb is for setting the base idle speed but with governor idle there a running idle speed control by governor spring. With governor idle as the engine warms up it needs to close the throttle a little more to control the idle speed; hence, the base idle speed adjustment and a governed idle speed adjustments.

I am surprised the difference between the two is so close when compared the Briggs setup that has nearly 500 rpm difference.

Now the X350 can have a FS600V or FS651V but the adjustments are the same. Just in different positions.

If you have the FS600V use the following link for service manual. The adjustment procedure is in the maintenance section.

Yep, same thing -- after I mow awhile the idle has changed up. I've tried reading through that service manual but I don't see anything on this issue. Senior, is yours a Kawasaki FR691v?

Senior, right now I don't know if anything is "getting longer". I found how to adjust the idle in the service manual that StarTech sent me. Next time I mow and the engine is warmed up I'll try adjusting and see what happens. If it idles down then I'll wait till its cool and start it and see if that changes the idle at start up. I'll let you know
