I have a 2012 Toro ZTR with a Kawasaki FR691V 23 HP. engine. I have had an oil burning issue for a good part of the time I've owned it. Most of the smoke I see is on first starting up. Especially after an extended sit. The smoking on start-up makes me think of valve seals. I do see some smoke when running but just as a puff. Once I even fouled a plug from oil. Of course when still in warranty dealer said using some oil could be possible, but I never stayed on them about it and oil use has gotten worse. It has 170 hrs. I'm adding oil each mowing now. I haven't actually measured how much but it will use from full to add on the stick in about an 2 hours. I have read that some of these engines have had issues with oil getting into the intake through the breather tubes. Has anyone had this same issue?

Possibly a blown head gasket on that cylinder.

Once you get a full heat in it, shut it down & remove dip stick, & see if you get any smoke out dip stick tube.
Stan5686, I just read your post from 2019. What did you find out about your F691 engine? I have a 2013 models with 260 jrs. It's starting to smoke at start up. However, l just changed oil. Went from 10w30 to 20w50. I don't know if treats the issue or if I'm starting to have a problem like yours.
