I have an engine on a Cub Cadet 50” zero turn that won’t start unless I put gas in the carburetor. Any ideas?

Check that the choke butterfly is closing fully when in full choke position.

Aren't they supposed to be this way? They need gas to run? Kidding......

Choke working?
Carb clean or replace? This most likely is your issue.
Valve clearance adjustment proper?
Air filters clean?
Good spark?
Use fuel stabilizer year round?
Take off the blower/starter engine cover and clean off all the oil, dirt, grass and bugs on the engine block cooling fins. Look all around the block for fin blockage.
Use real 100% gas if you can get it year round.
Do you have good compression?

Go back to the basics - air, fuel, spark and compression.

Could even a missing choke linkage depending on the model as I have replacing a lot linkage holders lately. I even seen one choke shaft completely worn through.
