If at all possible do not use jumper cables, use a jumper pack & avoid chance of frying your ECM, Electronic Control Module. This happened to me about 25 yrs. ago when I got a call from a Brother in Church with a bad battery in his car. His car battery had a short which fried my ECM on my 1985 Ford F-150XL as soon as I hooked jumper cables to his car my trucks engine shut down. Next day I drove wife's car to work & got a friend of mine to help me out getting my truck running & driving my truck back home. We got new ECM, distributer cap, & rotor button at NAPA Distribution Center installed, fired my truck up & drove back home. Brad was a top notch Diesel Mechanic at Ryder Truck Rental, we worked at the largest Ryder Truck Rental Shop in Ga. having over 600 18 wheelers running out of our shop in the 1980's.
