You would get any answers until you post the engine brand and model numbers. How are we to know if you have a big block chevy or a Mazda rotary engine.
We really need the engine numbers, not the chassis numbers as Rivets has requested. However, I'll take a stab at it.
First, disconnect the negative battery cable at the battery for safety reasons! Disconnect the wires going to the starter. There are usually two bolts at the top of the starter on each side going through a mounting plate that is part of the starter. Most of the time you can't see the bolts as they are obscured by the blower housing but if you get down on your knees and get eye level with the top of the starter you should be able to see the bolts and remove them without removing the blower housing. The above statement is not true for all Kohler engines so without engine numbers this is only a guess based on my experience with previous Kohler engines.
