Hi. New member here, residential cutter for many years. I'm glad to find this forum for answers to some common and not common questions that I frequently have.
I've been looking at John Deere commercial zero turns and am wondering why the front wheel placement is not symmetrical. I use wheel location and deck placement for keeping my lines where I want them and now am wondering about oddity if I buy one.

:confused3: Good question. I'm going to move your thread over to the John Deere section to see if we can get you an answer.

Now that I've had this mower for several weeks, I will suggest what I think is the reason for asymmetry. There is a trim side of the deck and a discharge side. On the trim side, the caster front wheel is closely mounted to the frame and the discharge side has the caster wheel further outboard. With this positioning, cutting line can be more closely observed. The outboard front wheel works with the weight distribution (11.5 gallons on trim side) to provide great stability on hills with a higher slope.

Not discounting your reasoning just explaining how I hold my lines. First I line my deck over the uncut grass about 3 to 5 inches. Then I choose a far away spot and mow to it, Always moving the spot further out until the land disappears. As when driving. You never drive directly in front of your car you look ahead and you follow that. Lines always straight and clean.

I agree. Within the last two years, I've had 56 trees removed and still have 60 to dodge when mowing. The JD will hold slopes but I have to check lines after going around trees. It's my 3rd zero turn mower and they all are a little different but all fun to ride and cut with. Thanks for the response, it is appreciated.
