John Deere STX 46 Hydro problem?

Hi Guys!

I have an older STX 46 (black deck) tractor, while cutting the lawn yesterday the mower just quit? The tractor itself kept running fine, there was no belt squeal or burning smells, it was as if I shut the mower switch off, but, I didn't.

I shut the tractor off and had a look, belt is fine and blades turn free. I did notice one difference, before if engaged the mower with the tractor not running, but, with the key in the "on" position you could hear a distant click, like a relay or solenoid? Now there is no clicking.

I checked and the 2 wires going to the clutch assembly seem to be firmly attached.

Is this a common issue? Switch? Wiring? Or a relay maybe?

ANY input would be appreciated, I would like to finish cutting the lawn!! HA HA

Thanks Guys!

Michael

Likely one of the safety switches went south, check the seat one first should be open with no pressure on seat closed when sitting on it, easy to by pass just short the terminals to each other on the tractor side wiring lead.
